Wehrlite is an ultramafic rock that is a mixture of olivine and clinopyroxene and hence is a peridotite. Wehrlite may also possess up to a few percent of orthopyroxene. Accessory minerals include ilmenite, chromite, magnetite and an aluminium phase, most notably plagioclase, spinel or garnet. Wehrlites occur as mantle xenoliths and in ophiolites. Additionally wehrlite is also observed as a cumulate in gabbroic and noritic layered intrusions.
